Authenticator Tool

The Authenticator tool retrieves and stores access credentials (cookies and headers) from your browser for Yahoo Finance and MSN Money. These credentials are necessary for downloading data using Market RTD formulas in Excel.

When and How to Use

Use the Authenticator if you encounter:

• #N/A errors in Excel formulas.
• Errors such as Too many requests when using a formula like =RTD("market.rtd",,"YahooFinanceQuotes","AAPL","rtd_LastMessage").

Steps:

1. Run the Authenticator tool.
2. A browser window will open.
3. Wait for a success message to appear in the window.
4. Close the tool.
5. Restart Excel to reload data with the updated credentials.

What It Looks Like

Ensure you see a window similar to this:

Look for a confirmation message between empty lines; this indicates that authentication was successful.

Notes

• Run the tool under the same Windows user that uses Excel.
• The tool stores cookies and headers in the Windows Registry.
• Internet access is required during authentication.
• There is no need to reconfigure formulas; simply restart Excel.
